satyAdyai: sAtvatAdi prathita mahimabhi: pancabhi: vyUha bhedai: pancAbhikhyo nirundhan bhavagaraLa bhavam prANinAm panca bhAvam | praaNaapAnAdi bhedAt pratitanu maruta: daivatam panca vrutte: pancAtmA pancadhA asau purusha upanishad ghoshita: tOshaye na: || Meaning May Garuda who is renowned for his five-fold forms, names and actions as acclaimed in the Vedas and in the pAncharAtra Agama, make us happy. He has five names Sathya etc., proclaimed by the Paancharaathra sasthra, corresponding to his vyuhas or five powers. He destroys the poison of samsara for all beings and frees them from death. He is the fivefold devatha controlling the five vital airs in every body, functioning in five-fold manner. This is affirmed by the Upanishads also. The reflection of Garuda falls on the Kousthubha gem in the chest of the Lord and it appears as though Kousthubha desired to purify itself from the contamination with the halahala being born from the same source, that is, the milky ocean.
